The erection of the second tower crane for the CAP site will take place on Wednesday 17^th June. The 120 tonne mobile crane will arrive at 7am and the escort vehicle will take it to the site. Several articulated lorries will travel from Holywell car park to the site during the day to erect the crane. All works should be completed by 6pm on Wednesday. Whilst the articulated lorries are driving through site there may be traffic delays along university road this will only be temporary and traffic should run normally most of the day.

SAC Heating Plant Replacement (Phase 2)

The new heating plant installed to the basement store area within a new caged area is set to resume which will pertain the connection of the district heating pipework, connection of the power supplies, BMS control installation to the newly installed plant equipment followed by commissioning.

The majority of the work will be within the basement area however on occasions a contractor presence is expected to the occupational health corridors to access and install new power supplies to the electrical distribution boards.

New wireless field control devices are to be installed to the Occupational Health Open Plan Office, SAC Reception, SAC Open Plan Office, Health & Safety Office, these devices will monitor the heating within the space and will link to the LoRaWAN hub at the central boiler house. A minor short disturbance is to be expected in each space while the new sensor is fixed to the wall.

Noise is to be expected where drilling of the structure is required to fix brackets for new components as well as formation of new holes through for new power supply routing from above floor level to the basement area.

During commissioning the heating system will need to be tested to prove correct operation and control, during this time offices could feel hot due to the summer external temperatures, this should last no more than 1 day and is expected to take place towards the end of the 3^rd week (1^st – 3^rd July).

The gas service isolation valve at Falkner Games Room has been reported as faulty and not providing adequate isolation to building plant. The external gas building entry into the meter cupboard will be replaced, a new meter inlet valve will be installed, an additional SIV will also be installed to the buried gas service to provide an additional isolation point to the building.

Excavation to expose the existing buried gas pipework will be required to allow the service to be squeezed off for safe working operation.

The gas service to be worked on only affects the Falkner games room heating which is currently offline for summer - there will be no disruption to accommodation blocks.

Charnwood Core D Gas Supply Maintenance.

Deterioration of the underground gas supply pipework has been identified to the Charnwood & Garendon gas supply at the NCCAT meter house. This pipework serves the gas supply that enters the building at Core D feeding all areas of Charnwood & Garendon.

The deteriorated section is to be replaced with new PE sections of pipework and gas industry WASK above ground transition fittings.

All gas appliances will need to be switched off and isolated prior to work commencing to ensure the gas pressure within the building is maintained. William Freer will carry out the isolation works on Monday 22^nd June.

Our GIRS contractor Ashfield Gas will start the operation on Monday 22^nd June following confirmation of appliance isolations, this will involve squeezing off the PE main at the meter house and installing the new pipe sections. This work is anticipated to take 5 days including post work checks and tests.

There will be no gas to Charnwood & Garendon building from Monday 22^nd June through to Friday 26^th June 2026. The lack of gas will result in the high bay Ambi-rad heating & Café hot water system being offline for the duration. We have aligned this work to be carried out during the planned Café refurbishment closure to avoid multiple disruptions.

Tenants are to disseminate the period of no gas to their teams and ensure process gas appliances are not operated during the repair works operation.

(Please note that the gas supply to the Holywell energy centre will still be online and live as it is connected via its own dedicated services, so MTHW heating & indirect hot water will not be affected by the works).
