IAS Workshop: Community Engaged Communication for Reduction of Disaster and Climate Risks
Full title: IAS Workshop: Community Engaged Communication for Reduction of Disaster and Climate Risks Using the Arts
IAS Visiting Fellow Dr Robert (Bob) Emmett Alexander delivers a workshop on their research.
This workshop builds upon the previous day's seminar frameworks and discussion of processes for locally appropriate communication of disaster and climate risks and good practices to address them, and for using arts to do so. A brief explanation of concepts and previous examples will provide a recap for returnees and onboarding for those unable to attend the seminar. Participants will first engage in facilitated replication of knowledge co-creation exercises done with community groups to prioritise key risk reduction good practices messages most relevant to their conditions and context.
After a presentation about how to communicate effectively using different types of arts, participants will form groups by self-selected arts types to create and present drawings, songs, poems, or theatre representations of their selected risk reduction good practices messages before a panel of judges. The workshop will conclude with a debriefing discussion on learnings and thoughts on using similar approaches in preparedness and adaptation training.
Arrivals from 9.45am for a 10am start. For those joining in person, lunch will be available.
